"Life can feel overwhelming at any stage — whether navigating the intensity of adolescence, feeling disconnected in your relationship, or quietly carrying stress that no one else sees. Reaching out for support takes courage, and you deserve a space where you feel both understood and gently challenged toward growth."

I work with children, teens, adults, couples, and families, helping them move from cycles of conflict, anxiety, and disconnection toward clarity, confidence, and deeper connection. My style is direct yet nurturing — I believe in being honest and insightful while creating a space that feels emotionally safe and supportive.

I help couples strengthen communication, rebuild trust, and better understand the patterns that keep them stuck. With families and individuals, I integrate Narrative Therapy, mindfulness practices, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Family Systems Theory to explore how your story, relationships, and belief systems shape your current challenges.

Although I am new as a therapist, I have been married for over 17 years, I have four children, and I have years of experience in all different areas of life. I have also received additional certification in the Gottman Method.

What "RMFTI" means, and how supervision works.

Registered Marriage and Family Therapist Intern (RMFTI)

Canaan holds a qualifying graduate degree in marriage and family therapy and is registered with the state to provide therapy while she completes the supervised clinical hours required for full licensure — the same structured, regulated path every marriage and family therapist in Florida goes through on the way to becoming an LMFT.

Working Under Supervision

Canaan's clinical work is overseen by Charity Cannavo, LMHC, Qualified Supervisor. That means her cases, approach, and clinical decisions are regularly reviewed by a fully licensed clinician — an added layer of oversight built into her role, not a lesser form of care.

Finding the right level of support

Canaan sees clients in person in Tallahassee and by telehealth for clients who will be physically located in Florida during their session. Not sure this is the right fit, or have questions about insurance, Medicaid, or a specific concern? See our full answer on the Contact page, or ask during a free consultation.
